Do you understand, A word,Isaid, Areyoulistening? Inouroceans, Youare far away, However, how hard can it? Wetrytocommunicate Thisisapolitical game, Mostlyonlyspoke loudly.
This is an excellent poem about the futility of human communication. I love the broken up and unfinished sentences in here, which are emblematic of the way nearly everybody only partially listens to most or all of the people they talk to.
Interpreting this through the lens of your biography, I see hints at both international friendships you've struggled to maintain and attempts to communicate yourself to certain people who refused to hear or understand the truth and importance of what you said.
I'm not sure which, if any, of those things inspired this poem, but regardless, I like it a lot.
Wooo yes totally about communication and not actually communicating properly. I wrote a poem, used google to tranlate to Chinese then back to English again, which is what gave it such good broken language. I thank Google for that. International communication was definitely part of the idea, but again was not putting myself into these poems. I tried to keep speaker and me separate.
